A Taste of Home
Since we have a holiday approaching, I thought I'd share my favorite BBQ sauce with you. This is a white sauce, made for chicken, turkey, or pork. It was invented in my hometown, and has won the national championship six times! If you've never had a white sauce, I urge you to try it!
My favorite memory of it is actually on smoked turkey at Thanksgiving, but since most people grill outside in the summer, I thought I'd share now. You can use it as a marinade and/or a dipping sauce.
Makes 4 cups-Decatur White Sauce
2 cups mayonnaise
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup apple juice
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
